Nature in Winter: A Family Tracking Program
Nature in Winter: A family tracking program co-sponsored with Mass. Audubon's Broad Meadow Brook Sanctuary. Join us to discover how woodland creatures adapt to cold weather and learn to identify some of their tracks and winter signs. Bring your snowshoes if there is enough snow! Meet at the west side of the Country Club parking lot nearest the equipment shed.

Snakes in Massachusetts and Beyond
Do you wonder what kind of snakes might be living in the woods near your house? Have you ever caught a glimpse of a snake just as it disappeared into some shrubs and wished for a closer look? Here is your chance to see local and exotic snakes close up. Rick Roth, Director of the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team and snake expert, will introduce some of his favorite snakes and talk about their lives and habits. Town-wide Earth Day Clean-up
Join the annual town-wide litter clean-up sponsored by WCLT! Early birds meet at 6:30 am at West Meadow Plaza traffic island. Families are invited at 9 am to Lake Chauncy parking lot or Sandra Pond’s Minuteman Park to be assigned a site to clean up. Wear gloves and sturdy shoes—trash bags will be provided. Rally your co-workers or neighbors to form a team to pick up litter and beautify our streets!

Nourse Farm Trail Relocation
We need to move the trail at Nourse Farm at a couple of spots. This will be new bog bridges, so cutting of a trail through the woods, work on a new stile over the stone wall and continuing the improvements of the trail along Nourse Street. Loppers and a willingness to work are what is needed. Meet at Mill Pond School.

DEADLINE for EARTH DAY ESSAYS and WCLT 2009 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
Last day for WHS seniors to submit essays for the WCLT Earth Day Essay Contest and their scholarship applications to become eligible for the $500 WCLT Scholarship to be awarded on Graduation Day. Hand in essays and applications to the WHS Guidance Office. See Scholarship page for details.

Pink Lady’s-slipper Walk
Walk the trails at Bowman Conservation Area with wildflower fan Annie Reid to discover pink lady’s-slippers in bloom in the woods. These large wild orchids are among the best of Westborough’s wildflowers. The walk is about 1 mile. Meet in the Bowman Conservation Area parking lot.

WCLT ANNUAL MEETING
Celebrate WCLT’s achievements this past year, vote on officers, and learn about “Shifting Landscapes: Native Plants and Climate Change†from Scott LaFleur, Horticulture and Botanic Garden Director at the New England Wild Flower Society and Garden in the Woods. He will present current ideas on how climate change will affect New England’s native trees, wildflowers, and plants. Reception and refreshments.

Tree Tales
Why is a birch tree white? Is that a white oak or a red oak? What tree has a three different leaves, including a mitten? Discover the stories the trees tell from retired Forester Bill Carr and WCLT Nature Educator Kris Allen on a hike through pine, oak, and hickory forests into a sunny meadow. You will learn how to identify common trees, explore different habitats, and look for changes in land use.

Fall Foraging
Do you wonder what wild nuts, legumes, fall tubers and berries you can eat? Are you curious about the taste of bread made with acorn flour? Foraging offers many ways of connecting with nature and fosters a greater appreciation of our local landscape. Arthur Haines, research botanist at the New England Wild Flower Society, will lead this walk to discover edible and useful wild plants.
