Sandra Pond from the trail
Sandra Pond is the town reservoir. Purchased by the Town from Frank Sandra in 1878, this area lies 138 feet above the town center. The conservation land is 144 acres of land purchased in 1969 to protect the town's water supply. In that year the Westborough Conservation Area, also known as the Bowman Conservation Area, was established. In 1975 the land bordering Upton Road and the reservoir became Minuteman Park.
For years there were only a few trails known to most residents. In 2000 the Westborough Open Space Preservation Committee and the Westborough Community Land Trust undertook a major effort to improve and document the trails around the pond.

Minuteman Park
There are many miles of trails in the area. The walks range from woods roads to steep, narrow trails along the shore. It is possible, with two short stretches of road walking, to circumnavigate the pond. At present this is a tough walk, but efforts are being considered to improve this route and reduce the road hazards.
Looking at the pond from the right location, it seems as if you are in the deep north woods. The area is home to over 80 varieties of wildflowers. These flowers are chronicled on their own website, Wildflowers of the Westborough Reservoir .
