These images were my initial attempts to scan and prepare photographs for the web. While it's hard to see in the thumbnails, the enlarged images (displayed by clicking on the thumbnails) are grainy and suffer from processing artifacts. "Image Quality and Sizing Images for the Web" is a detailed article about what I learned about image processing software, resizing photographic images and compressing image files. Bottom line is that you get what you pay for. There are a number of good software packages including those in the article. I've come to appreciate Adobe Photoshop, which tends to have well chosen default settings for resizing and compressing images.
